Egypt and Mozambique have signed a new aviation partnership aimed at strengthening Africa’s air transport industry through technical cooperation, training and improved aviation standards.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU), signed during AFI Aviation Week 2026, brings together the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) and Mozambique’s Civil Aviation Authority (IACM). The agreement supports closer collaboration on aviation safety, airport operations, air navigation and sustainable aviation development.

The signing ceremony was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation, Sameh Elhefny, and Mozambique’s Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistics, Chinguane Mabote, highlighting both countries’ commitment to expanding regional cooperation.

Egypt strengthens role as Africa’s aviation hub

The agreement reinforces Egypt’s ambition to become one of Africa’s leading civil aviation hubs while supporting broader efforts to improve regional air connectivity.

Signed by ECAA President Sameh Fawzy and IACM board member Jeremias Chitocueco, the partnership aligns with standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It also promotes the exchange of technical expertise designed to improve operational efficiency and strengthen aviation oversight.

Under the agreement, both authorities will launch joint training programs, technical exchange visits, specialized workshops and capacity-building initiatives to enhance institutional expertise and modernize aviation operations.

Focus on safety, skills and regional growth

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Elhefny said the partnership reflects Egypt’s commitment to deepening cooperation with African nations through knowledge sharing and technical collaboration.

As African countries continue investing in airport infrastructure and cross-border connectivity, the Egypt-Mozambique aviation partnership is expected to contribute to safer, more efficient air travel while supporting long-term economic growth and tourism across the continent.
