Moroccan telecom operator Inwi is partnering with Huawei to improve network coverage and service quality along the country’s major transport routes, including high-speed rail lines and highways, as demand for reliable connectivity on the move continues to rise.

Huawei announced the partnership on July 29, saying its technology could extend network coverage by about one kilometer, increase average user-experienced download speeds by 83%, and support 3.2 times as many active users.

The initiative positions Inwi to strengthen the performance of its network in Morocco’s increasingly competitive telecom market, where reliable connectivity has become critical for consumers using video streaming, videoconferencing, online gaming, and cloud-based applications while traveling.

Inwi’s strategic partnership with Huawei

Through the partnership, Inwi is deploying Huawei’s technology to address coverage gaps along major transport corridors without requiring additional physical sites.

Huawei said the solution is designed to eliminate coverage holes created by large distances between network sites while significantly improving downlink speeds experienced by users and lowering network deployment costs.

The collaboration comes as Moroccan consumers increasingly expect uninterrupted connectivity across trains, buses, highways, and other transport networks, making network performance an important factor in how telecom operators compete for subscribers.

Service quality remains a significant concern among Moroccan telecom users. In the first quarter of 2026, it accounted for 62% of the 887 complaints filed with Morocco’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency, known by its French acronym ANRT.

The GSMA has also highlighted reliable service as a potential competitive advantage for telecom operators, helping improve subscriber retention while encouraging greater use of digital services.

Inwi strengthens position in Morocco’s telecom market

The Huawei partnership comes as Inwi continues to strengthen its position in Morocco’s mobile telecommunications market.

According to ANRT data, Inwi had 19.4 million mobile subscriptions at the end of March 2026, representing a 34.04% market share.

The operator was narrowly behind market leader Orange, which held a 34.38% share, while Maroc Telecom ranked third with 31.58%.

Inwi’s position was even stronger in mobile internet, where it led the Moroccan market with a 41.83% share. Maroc Telecom followed with 30.49%, while Orange accounted for 27.68%.

The figures underline Inwi’s growing influence in Morocco’s digital communications market and the importance of network quality as the operator competes closely with Orange and Maroc Telecom.

Inwi targets stronger connectivity across Morocco

By improving coverage along major transport routes, Inwi is seeking to enhance the experience of millions of users who increasingly depend on mobile networks for work, entertainment, communication, and digital services while traveling.

The partnership with Huawei also allows the operator to improve network performance without relying solely on the construction of additional physical sites, potentially reducing infrastructure costs while expanding effective coverage.

With Inwi already leading Morocco’s mobile internet market, stronger connectivity could further reinforce its competitive position and support greater adoption of data-intensive digital services across the country.
