Swedish mining equipment maker Epiroc AB has completed the acquisition of Johannesburg-based Eventspec Proprietary Limited, adding to its aftermarket business in South Africa as mining companies seek faster access to parts and repair services.

Epiroc completed the deal Aug. 4, 2026, after South Africa’s Competition Tribunal approved the transaction with public-interest conditions.

Eventspec makes replacement parts for drill rigs, mine trucks and loaders and provides rebuilds, repairs and field services.

The deal gives Epiroc additional manufacturing and engineering capacity in South Africa, a major mining market with a large base of equipment suppliers and contractors.

Eventspec had about 120 employees and revenue of about R280 million ($17.3 million) in 2025, according to Epiroc. Its customers are mainly mining companies in South Africa.

Epiroc adds local mining services

For Epiroc, the acquisition is about more than adding another business. Eventspec can manufacture replacement components locally and handle repairs and equipment rebuilds, services that can help mines get machinery back into operation sooner.

The Competition Tribunal approved the deal in July, subject to conditions covering ownership, skills development, supplier and enterprise development, education, training and socioeconomic development.

The transaction involves Epiroc subsidiaries Evrypart and Epiroc Holdings South Africa.

A bigger push into Africa

The acquisition also gives Epiroc a stronger base from which to serve mining customers in South Africa and other African markets.

Demand for aftermarket services can remain steady even when miners delay major equipment purchases because existing machines still need parts, repairs and maintenance.

Epiroc President and CEO Helena Hedblom said Eventspec would strengthen the company’s manufacturing capabilities and expand its range of spare parts and related services in Africa and beyond.

Epiroc’s mining business

Epiroc, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, was formed in 2018 after Atlas Copco separated its mining and rock excavation business.

It supplies drilling rigs, loaders, mining tools and other equipment for surface and underground operations, while also offering automation, electrification and aftermarket services.

The company had about 19,000 employees and revenue of about SEK 62 billion in 2025.

With Eventspec now part of its Equipment & Service business, Epiroc will record the acquired operation under service revenue.

The move gives the Swedish group a larger local manufacturing and repair operation as mining companies across Africa continue to invest in equipment, maintenance and productivity.
