Mohammed El-Sewedy’s stake in Egyptian electric giant nears $900 million

Egyptian businessman Mohammed Elsewedy, Vice President of Elsewedy Electric and CEO of its core Wires and Cables division, has seen his stake in Elsewedy Electric grow by $283 million in 2026.

This surge brings his total stake value to $883.05 million, reflecting the company’s solid performance on the Egyptian bourse. 

Mohamed’s stake soars by $283 million

Mohammed El-Sewedy, who holds a beneficial 18.01% stake, equivalent to 385.6 million shares, has cemented his position, driving its expansion across international markets while spearheading innovation in specialized cable manufacturing and energy infrastructure.

Over the past 232 days, his stake has gained EGP14.75 billion ($283.18 million), marking roughly 50% increase since the start of the year.

Elsewedy Electric nears $5 billion market cap

Elsewedy Electric, founded in 1938 by the El-Sewedy family, remains a dominant force in Egypt and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region’s electrical industry, offering cables, transformers, energy meters, and wind energy solutions that enhance regional energy infrastructure.

In H1 2026, the electric company reported a 14.1% increase in net profit to EGP9.92 billion ($195.03 million) for the year ended June 30, 2026, compared with EGP8.7 billion ($170.9 million) in the prior period’s half-year.

Since the beginning of 2026, Elsewedy’s stock price has risen by 48.89% in local currency terms and 47.21% in U.S. dollar terms, from EGP75.88 ($1.509) on January 1 to EGP116.51 ($2.29), pushing its market capitalization to EGP248.33 billion ($4.88 billion), thus nearing the $5 billion milestone.

Mohammed El-Sewedy’s growing stake in Elsewedy Electric has further solidified his position, as his investment is now valued at around $900 million. As the Co-founder of Breadfast, an online grocery delivery company, the Founder and Owner of Magma Sportwear, as well as Kings Polo Club, the top equestrian complex in Egypt. Mohamed continues to transform the family-owned enterprise into a globally recognized integrated energy solutions provider.

His stake has increased from EGP30.17 billion ($599.87 million) at the start of the year to EGP44.93 billion ($883.05 million), highlighting the bright future of Egypt’s energy and cable sectors, most especially as Elswedy Electric’s market capitalisation approaches $5 billion.
