Shell Lubricants Egypt, a downstream division of Shell plc., has partnered with TAQA Petroleum to expand the distribution of its automotive lubricants and coolants across Egypt, giving the global energy company access to a wider network of retail service stations in one of North Africa’s largest vehicle markets.

The agreement will make Shell’s range of vehicle maintenance products available at TAQA-branded service stations nationwide, targeting passenger car owners, motorcyclists and commercial vehicle operators.

The partnership is designed to improve product accessibility while strengthening the companies’ positions in Egypt’s growing automotive aftermarket.

Shell targets wider retail reach

The product portfolio includes Shell Helix engine oils for passenger cars, Shell Advance lubricants for motorcycles and Shell Rimula products for heavy-duty vehicles. The offering also covers Spirax transmission fluids and advanced cooling solutions, serving different vehicle categories and maintenance requirements.

Shell Lubricants Egypt manufactures, markets and distributes automotive and industrial lubricants and coolants. The partnership with TAQA Petroleum gives the business an additional retail distribution channel, allowing it to reach motorists through an established fuel station network rather than relying solely on existing sales outlets.

Recognized globally for quality and innovation, Shell is a premier name in automotive lubricants. Operating across more than 100 countries, the brand engineers high-performance engine oils tailored to everyday motorists and professional mechanics alike. Beyond performance, Shell drives sustainability forward by pioneering cleaner formulations and eco-friendly manufacturing practices.

TAQA brings nationwide infrastructure

TAQA Petroleum, a subsidiary of Egyptian energy company TAQA Arabia, was established in 2008 as the country’s first privately owned company licensed to market petroleum products through a retail network. Its operations cover fuel distribution and related services under the TAQA brand across several Egyptian regions.

The company operates 72 retail service stations across Greater Cairo, the Nile Delta, Upper Egypt, major highways and the country’s expanding road network. Its footprint gives Shell access to established locations serving private motorists, commercial transport operators and other customers who require regular vehicle maintenance products.

Storage capacity supports expansion

TAQA Petroleum has also invested in fuel storage infrastructure, operating a terminal in Suez with capacity for 18 million liters of refined products and another in Alexandria capable of holding 26 million liters. The facilities, established in 2012 and later, respectively, support its petroleum distribution operations across the country.

The company says it has sold more than 778 million liters of refined petroleum products, including gasoline grades 95, 92 and 80, as well as diesel. It has outlined further expansion plans as demand for transportation fuels and related automotive services grows across Egypt.

For Shell, the agreement provides a route to deepen its presence in the Egyptian lubricants market through an established domestic distribution partner. For TAQA Petroleum, adding Shell’s product range broadens its retail offering beyond conventional fuel sales and creates another revenue opportunity across its service station network.
