The Capital Hotels, Apartments and Resorts is accelerating its national expansion, tapping into South Africa’s resurging tourism sector with new investments across key markets.
The group is expanding its flagship properties — including Capital Trilogy in Pretoria and Capital Pearls Shore in Durban — while gearing up to open its first hotel in Gqeberha, marking its Eastern Cape debut.
Hospitality sector rides growth wave
South Africa’s tourism industry continues to rebound, contributing 3.3 percent to GDP in 2024, according to government estimates.
With nearly 9 million international arrivals recorded, and the R24 billion ($1.34 billion) hospitality market projected to grow at 4.4 percent annually through 2030, The Capital Hotel Group’s move is well timed.
“Guest demand continues to evolve — they want flexible, design-led spaces in vibrant locations.
At Menlyn Maine, our newly opened wing at Capital Trilogy responds to that,” said Marc Wachsberger, CEO of The Capital Hotels, Apartments and Resorts.
The new wing in Pretoria adds premium hotel rooms and long-stay serviced apartments, targeting both corporate travelers and lifestyle-seeking professionals who frequent the booming Menlyn precinct.
Eastern Cape push to fuel domestic, business travel
In Gqeberha, The Capital Hotel Group is set to open a luxury hotel at the Boardwalk precinct by 2026.
The development will offer a mix of short and extended-stay accommodation, plus conference and event facilities aimed at both leisure and business tourists.
“Each of our expansions reflects real momentum in South Africa’s travel sector.
Whether it’s the Pearls Shore in Durban, Trilogy in Pretoria, or our upcoming property in Gqeberha — we’re meeting travelers where they are,” said Wachsberger.
The new Gqeberha project is expected to boost business tourism, enhance the city’s event-hosting potential, and create new employment opportunities across hospitality and support services.
Strategic growth anchored in flexibility
Known for its serviced-living model, The Capital Hotel Group has positioned itself at the intersection of flexible accommodation and luxury hospitality — a formula resonating with both domestic travelers and international visitors.
As tourism spending climbs and local demand for apartment-style stays grows, the company’s cross-country footprint is set to play a vital role in revitalizing key urban centers, creating jobs, and reinforcing South Africa’s image as a travel destination.
