  • Victoria Falls border opens 24 hours, easing travel and adventure access.
  • Boost for local tourism, hotels, and tour operators in Zimbabwe and Zambia.
  • Streamlined border operations support regional trade and economic growth.

Victoria Falls, one of Africa’s most iconic natural wonders, is now easier to reach than ever.

The Victoria Falls Border Post, connecting Zimbabwe and Zambia, began operating 24 hours a day on November 13, 2025.

The move is expected to make travel simpler for millions of visitors and enhance cross-border trade, positioning the Falls as a more seamless destination for tourism, adventure, and commerce.

Previously, limited border hours created delays and forced travelers to adjust itineraries, sometimes missing opportunities to explore both sides of the waterfall.

With round-the-clock access, tourists can move between Zimbabwe and Zambia at any time, opening doors to cultural sites, scenic viewpoints, and adventure activities such as bungee jumping, white-water rafting, and helicopter tours over the Zambezi River.

Local businesses and entrepreneurs are expected to see immediate benefits.

Faster border crossings reduce transport costs and improve supply chain efficiency for traders, while small-scale enterprises and cross-border vendors can operate with less friction.

The change also creates room for new trade partnerships, supporting economic growth in the region.

Tourism industry anticipates boost

Tour operators, hotels, and travel agencies are preparing for increased bookings as spontaneous, multi-destination itineraries become more feasible.

Visitors can now combine trips to Victoria Falls with nearby attractions, including Hwange and Kafue national parks, or other Southern African destinations, offering richer travel experiences.

Local communities, from craft markets to safari lodges, stand to gain from the uptick in tourism, further strengthening the economic impact.

Hospitality providers note that 24-hour access can help attract international travelers who often face tight schedules or connecting flights, making Victoria Falls more competitive as a global destination.

Adventure operators are particularly optimistic, expecting growth in activities that rely on flexible timing, such as river safaris and guided excursions to remote viewpoints.

Advancing regional connectivity

The initiative aligns with broader continental goals to improve connectivity and trade.

By facilitating the smooth movement of people and goods, the 24-hour border supports the African Union’s Agenda 2063 vision of promoting tourism, economic growth, and regional integration.

Governments in both Zimbabwe and Zambia say the change reflects a commitment to supporting sustainable tourism and cross-border business development.

Regional planners highlight that more accessible borders can enhance social and economic engagement beyond the tourism sector.

Easier travel allows for more cultural exchange, educational visits, and professional collaboration between neighboring communities.

Over time, this could strengthen ties between Zimbabwe, Zambia, and other Southern African countries, positioning Victoria Falls not just as a natural wonder but also as a hub of regional economic activity.

Victoria Falls has long captivated travelers with its dramatic scenery and adventure opportunities. With full 24-hour border operations now in place, the region is poised to attract more visitors, boost local economies, and showcase the potential of Southern Africa as a connected and accessible travel destination.

For travelers, businesses, and communities alike, the changes mark a step toward a more integrated, prosperous future for the region.
