Industry leaders, investors, and travelers are watching closely as new hotels and lodges open across the country, blending high-end design with sustainability, immersive wildlife experiences, and prime beachfront locations. 

From Cape Town’s waterfront to the bushlands of Limpopo, 2026 will bring a wave of properties that redefine how global visitors experience South Africa. Airlines and tour operators are expanding routes, making it easier than ever for travelers to explore both the coast and the wild. 

Investors are betting on mixed-use developments that cater to diverse audiences, honeymooners seeking boutique city stays, families and adventurers chasing safari thrills, and travelers who want a beach-to-bush combination. 

The Eastern Cape and Limpopo are welcoming regenerative tourism projects that pair luxury with conservation, while global hotel brands position South Africa as a gateway to premium African experiences.

Below are new hotels and lodges opening across South Africa in 2026:

1. Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari Resort 

Club Med unveils a $108.6-million luxury resort in South Africa, opening July 4, 2026, on the Dolphin Coast in KwaZulu-Natal, this all-inclusive resort merges beach escapes with safari adventures. Guests can stay at the 345-room resort and extend their visit with one- to three-night safaris at Mpilo Private Game Reserve.

Facilities include four swimming pools, wellness centers, a full-service spa, and dining from casual to gourmet. The resort sits about 30 minutes from King Shaka International Airport.

2. Cape Town EDITION 

Marriott’s luxury EDITION brand arrives at the V&A Waterfront in 2026 with 142 rooms, a rooftop bar, and full-service spa. Guests will enjoy views of Table Mountain and the harbor, along with direct access to the waterfront’s shopping, dining, and entertainment.

The property combines contemporary design with understated luxury for urban travelers.

3. Taj Resorts – Balule Game Reserve 

Indian Hotels Company Limited brings its Taj brand to South Africa with three lodges in the Balule Game Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger ecosystem.

The 30-key Hilltop Tented Camp and two smaller lodges offer all-day dining, spas, and pools, with close encounters of the Big Five through day and night drives. The Bush and River Lodges open in March 2026; the Hilltop Camp follows later.

4. Sandringham Private Game Reserve (Sabi Sabi Collection) 

Opening June 1, 2026, Sandringham offers two luxury lodges in a 4,500-hectare rehabilitated wildlife sanctuary. N’Weti Camp and Shisaka Camp provide adults-only and family-friendly options, emphasizing low-impact luxury and conservation-focused wildlife encounters.

5. Mama Shelter Cape Town 

Ennismore’s playful brand arrives on Bree Street with 127 rooms, 68 residences, rooftop dining, and a 742-square-meter “Mama Play” arcade. Set to open in the third quarter of 2026, the hotel targets urban explorers with interactive social spaces and sweeping views of Table Mountain and the Atlantic Seaboard.

6. Mantis Hiddn, Addo 

Opening March 1, 2026, this lodge in the Eastern Cape sits within an 800-hectare private reserve. Off-grid luxury includes solar power, water harvesting, and recycling systems.

Guests stay in 12 mountain suites and two private villas, featuring wood-fired tubs, fireplaces, and decks overlooking the reserve. Guided wildlife tours highlight elephants, lions, buffalo, and antelope.

7. RockFig Safari Lodge (Timbavati) 

Reopened in January 2026, RockFig offers six chalet-style suites with private plunge pools, indoor-outdoor living, and personalized service. Guests can enjoy Big Five game drives, starlit dining, and poolside relaxation, combining intimate luxury with African wilderness.
