  • Over 1,000 workers on-site as Club Med builds a 345-room beachfront resort near Ballito, boosting jobs and travel.
  • Reservations open mid-2025 for Club Med’s first South African resort, set to draw 400 international guests weekly.

Club Med, the globally recognized French travel and hospitality brand, is making a bold entry into South Africa with a R2 billion ($108.6 million) luxury beachfront resort.

Set to open in July 2026, the highly anticipated development in Tinley Manor, near Ballito in KwaZulu-Natal’s north coast, is poised to redefine premium tourism in the region.

Milestone in African tourism

Marking Club Med’s first resort in South Africa and its debut property on the African continent.

The all-inclusive destination is expected to draw international travelers, particularly from France and Belgium.

Once operational, the resort aims to welcome approximately 400 foreign guests weekly, further solidifying South Africa’s standing as a luxury travel hotspot.

Construction, which began in March 2024, is advancing on schedule, with over 1,000 workers engaged on-site daily.

The resort will feature 345 rooms, private luxury villas, and world-class conference facilities, all designed to seamlessly integrate with the coastal landscape.

Club Med partnership sparks economic gains

Strategic Collaboration Driving Growth The project is the result of a strategic partnership forged in 2018 between Club Med and the Collins Residential Consortium.

Chris du Toit, director at Collins Residential, emphasized that the venture will elevate South Africa’s tourism appeal while delivering substantial economic benefits, including job creation and increased foreign visitor spending.

For travelers eager to explore more of the continent, Club Med’s existing presence in Mauritius provides a complementary getaway.

The La Plantation d’Albion Club Med resort, nestled on Mauritius’ western coast, offers a seamless blend of luxury, nature, and cultural immersion, featuring gourmet dining, water sports, and pristine beaches.

Reservations and future prospects

Reservations for the South African resort are expected to open between June and July 2025.

As the July 2026 launch approaches, anticipation is mounting for what is set to become one of the most sought-after luxury destinations in Africa.

With its signature all-inclusive concept, Club Med’s expansion underscores South Africa’s growing prominence on the global tourism map, offering a compelling mix of natural beauty, upscale amenities, and world-class hospitality.
