Transcorp Hotels Plc, Africa’s most capitalized hospitality brand and arm of Transnational Corporation Plc, reported a strong start to 2026, with revenue rising to N22.41 billion ($16.6 million) and profit rising by 12.18% to N5.66 billion ($4.18 million) in the first quarter.

The performance reflects continued gains in operational efficiency and cost discipline, reinforcing the company’s position in Nigeria’s hospitality sector.

Margins expand on cost efficiency

Profit climbed 12.18% year-on-year from N5.05 billion ($3.73 million), while revenue rose 9% from N20.64 billion ($15.3 million) in the same period last year.

Gross profit margin improved to 77%, up from 75%, supported by stronger service delivery and operational optimization. At the same time, the cost of sales declined to 23% from 25%, highlighting the impact of tighter cost controls.

Chief Executive Officer Uzoamaka Oshogwe said the results underscore disciplined execution and a strategy focused on long-term value creation. “Our Q1 2026 performance underscores the strength of a strategy anchored on discipline, operational efficiency, and consistent value creation,” Oshogwe said, noting that the company continues to raise the bar for hospitality standards in Africa.

Sustaining growth momentum

Chief Financial Officer Oluwatobiloba Ojediran added that the company’s ability to grow revenue while reducing costs reflects a deliberate focus on efficiency without compromising service quality.

The results build on Transcorp Hotels’ strategy of leveraging its flagship assets, including the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, while expanding its digital hospitality platform, Aura.

Strategic positioning in Nigeria’s hospitality market

Transcorp Hotels Plc’s balance sheet expanded modestly, with total assets rising 3.52% to N165.53 billion ($122.26 million). However, retained earnings and total equity declined by 8.55% and 6.75% to N70.9 billion ($52.39 million) and N88.8 billion ($65.62 million), respectively, signifying the impact of shareholder payouts and possible reinvestment strategies, even as the company sustains profitability and growth momentum.

Backed by its parent company’s diversified investment base across power, energy, and hospitality, Transcorp Hotels continues to strengthen its market leadership through operational excellence and innovation.

The latest quarter highlights the company’s resilience amid evolving market conditions, as it balances growth with profitability while positioning for sustained expansion in Africa’s hospitality industry.
