Federal Airlines, a South Africa’s leading private charter & shuttle flight, has opened its new Baobab Lounge at Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport in the Lowveld, expanding its ground services for travellers heading to safari destinations across the region.

The opening comes as the carrier scales up its scheduled Lowveld routes, part of its broader effort to streamline travel connections for passengers moving through one of Southern Africa’s key tourism gateways. The airline said the lounge is intended to improve the overall airport experience, offering a quieter and more comfortable space before departure.

Safari-inspired guest experience

The Baobab Lounge draws design cues from Federal Airlines’ flagship facility in Johannesburg, combining modern interiors with subtle safari-inspired elements. Natural tones, clean finishes and locally influenced design details are used to create a calm setting for travellers transiting through Hoedspruit.

According to the airline, the goal was to balance function and comfort while reflecting the character of the surrounding region. Seating areas are arranged to give passengers space to work, rest or prepare for onward flights to nearby lodges and reserves.

To mark the launch, Federal Airlines hosted travel partners and industry stakeholders for a walkthrough of the facility. Early feedback highlighted the lounge’s quiet atmosphere and upgraded passenger comfort compared with the main terminal.

Federal Airlines highlights guest experience focus

The lounge is available primarily to Federal Airlines passengers but will also accept limited walk-in access from travellers connecting through commercial flights. Entry will be offered for a nominal fee, giving non-eligible passengers an option to wait in a more relaxed environment away from the terminal crowd.

Speaking at the opening, Pascaline, Head of Guest Relations at Federal Airlines, said the project was developed with guest comfort in mind. “Bringing the Baobab Lounge to life has been a meaningful process for the team, and seeing it open to travellers is rewarding,” she said. “Every detail was considered to ensure a calm and welcoming space that reflects our service standards.”

Two decades of regional aviation

Federal Airlines has operated for more than 20 years, providing charter and shuttle services across Southern Africa’s safari and tourism network. The airline focuses on direct access to remote destinations, with an emphasis on safety, convenience and efficiency for both leisure and lodge-based travellers.

The new lounge adds to its broader strategy of strengthening passenger experience at key entry points into Africa’s wildlife and tourism destinations.
