Egypt’s Alkan Holding Group, a prominent Egyptian private-sector conglomerate led by Khalid Nosseir, plans to invest $120 million in the country’s automotive sector, including the construction of a new local vehicle assembly plant expected to begin production in 2027, as the North African nation accelerates efforts to deepen industrial manufacturing and expand exports.

The investment, announced by Chairman Khaled Nosseir, will support domestic production of Kia and BAIC vehicles with an initial local content ratio of 46 to 48%, rising over time as Egypt strengthens local supply-chain integration. The move positions Alkan among private-sector groups seeking to capitalize on Egypt’s push to become a regional automotive production and export hub.

Alkan expands automotive footprint with local assembly plans

According to Nosseir, the planned factory is currently in the design stage and will eventually reach an annual production capacity of 75,000 vehicles. Initial output is projected at approximately 10,000 vehicles during the first year of operation, with a portion designated for export across Arab and African markets.

The strategy aligns with Egypt’s broader industrial agenda aimed at reducing import dependence, increasing domestic manufacturing capacity, and improving foreign currency generation through exports. Local production of international vehicle brands has become increasingly important as Egypt seeks to strengthen industrial resilience and attract higher-value manufacturing investment.

Alkan’s planned $120 million automotive investment highlights increasing private-sector confidence in Egypt’s industrial strategy and reflects broader efforts across African markets to build local manufacturing ecosystems.

Egypt’s automotive manufacturing sector enters a new growth phase

The planned assembly facility signals renewed momentum in Egypt’s automotive ecosystem at a time when governments across Africa are prioritizing industrialization and regional manufacturing capabilities.

Raising local content levels could stimulate opportunities for component suppliers, logistics operators, and adjacent industries including steel, electronics, and industrial services.

The initiative also reflects a wider regional trend in which domestic assembly and export-oriented production are becoming central to economic diversification strategies.

Tourism and hospitality projects add to investment pipeline

Beyond automotive expansion, Alkan Holding is advancing hospitality developments through its Citadel Plaza project in Cairo.

Nosseir said the company is evaluating two international hospitality operators to manage and operate three planned hotels within the development, with a final agreement expected within three months. The planned hospitality assets include a luxury boutique hotel, an upscale hotel, and a luxury 5-star hotel. Combined, the development is expected to contribute approximately 550 hotel rooms to Egypt’s accommodation market.

Located overlooking the Saladin Citadel, Citadel Plaza is being developed around an experiential tourism concept intended to strengthen historic Cairo’s appeal and create immersive cultural experiences for international visitors.

Alkan eyes additional hotel investments near Egypt’s Pyramids

Founded in 1974, Alkan Holding operates across Egypt and more than 17 countries, with businesses spanning telecommunications and information technology, manufacturing, trade and distribution, real estate, tourism and aviation, automotive, and consumer finance.

Alkan Holding is also studying the development of two additional hotels near the Pyramids, including one five-star property and one three-star project.

The company said feasibility work remains underway regarding room capacity and investment requirements. The expansion comes as Egypt’s tourism industry records stronger occupancy trends supported by rising visitor arrivals and continued investment in hospitality infrastructure.
