Classic Portfolio has added The Residence Collection to its network, bringing three independently owned luxury properties in Johannesburg and Zambia into its portfolio of owner-operated lodges, camps, hotels and villas across Africa.

The move expands Classic Portfolio’s presence into two key Southern African destinations and strengthens its offering for international travel partners seeking multi-country itineraries.

Classic Portfolio represents independently owned hospitality businesses in 11 African countries, connecting the global travel trade with distinctive destinations known for personalized hospitality and a strong sense of place. The latest addition fills a longstanding gap in its portfolio by establishing a presence in both Johannesburg and Zambia.

The Residence Collection includes The Residence Hotel in Johannesburg, as well as Mukwa River Lodge and the exclusive-use Tanyati Villa on the banks of the Zambezi River in Zambia. While each property offers a different experience, all share an owner-led approach focused on personalized service.

The expansion also allows travel advisors to combine Johannesburg and Zambia with Classic Portfolio’s existing properties across Southern and East Africa, creating more seamless travel experiences for guests.

Inside The Residence Collection

Located in Johannesburg’s Houghton suburb, The Residence Hotel offers a luxury base before or after a safari. The property is about 25 minutes from OR Tambo International Airport and features spacious accommodations, wellness facilities and curated city experiences.

In Zambia, Mukwa River Lodge and Tanyati Villa offer riverside stays along the Zambezi River, with experiences including visits to Victoria Falls, boat cruises, cultural activities, wellness treatments and locally inspired dining.

Owner-led hospitality model

Like every member of Classic Portfolio, The Residence Collection is independently owned and managed. Through its partnerships in Zambia, guest stays also support community initiatives focused on education, youth development, women’s empowerment and animal welfare.

“We’ve always believed that some of Africa’s most memorable places are those where the owners are deeply involved in the experience they create,” said Suzanne Bayly, founder of Classic Portfolio.

“That independent spirit has always been at the heart of Classic Portfolio and is shared by all our members. Exceptional hospitality and meaningful community impact go hand in hand. The Residence Collection reflects those values, and we’re delighted to welcome Aaron, Edgar and their team.”

Aaron Menezes of The Residence Collection said joining Classic Portfolio was a natural fit.

“We’ve always believed that the smallest details often leave the biggest impression,” Menezes said. “Whether guests spend one night in Johannesburg or several days on the banks of the Zambezi, we want them to feel at home from the moment they arrive.

Joining Classic Portfolio allows us to share that approach with more travelers through its trusted global network while remaining true to the personal hospitality and attention to detail that define The Residence Collection.”

Growing a network of independent properties

The Residence Collection is now represented by Classic Portfolio, with sales and marketing support provided by both organizations.

Founded in 1993, Classic Portfolio promotes privately owned hotels, lodges and camps across Africa, with a focus on responsible tourism and community partnerships. The network includes 16 members operating 53 lodges, camps and villas across 27 protected areas in 11 African countries.
