El-Sewedy Sisters, Mona, Zeinab, Azza’s stake in Egyptian electric giant rises by $49 million to $353 million

Mona, Zeinab and Azza El-Sewedy, leading female investors on the Egyptian Exchange and sisters to the billionaire El-Sewedy brothers, have seen their investment in Elsewedy Electric grow by $49 million in the first 199 days of 2026.

This surge brings their total stake to over $353 million, reflecting the company’s solid performance on the Egyptian bourse.

Mona, Zeinab and Azza’s stake soars by $49.4 million

Mona, Zeinab and Azza, who hold a beneficial 3.03% stake each, totalling 195.75 million shares, have cemented their position as top female figures in the region’s business scene.

Over the past 199 days, their stake has gained EGP2.78 billion ($49.41 million), marking a significant increase since the start of the year.


Elsewedy Electric nears $4 billion market cap

Elsewedy Electric, founded in 1938, is a leading manufacturer of electrical equipment in the Middle East and North Africa.

The company reported a modest 1.85% increase in net profit to EGP19.19 billion ($386.67 million) for the year ended Dec. 30, 2025, compared with EGP18.84 billion ($379.6 million) a year earlier.

Since the beginning of 2026, Elsewedy’s stock price has risen by 18.21% in local currency terms and 16.31% in U.S. dollar terms, from EGP75.88 ($1.509) on January 1 to EGP92.5 ($1.8), pushing its market capitalization to EGP197.59 billion ($3.87 billion), thus nearing $4 billion milestone.

Mona, Zeinab and Azza’s growing stake in Elsewedy Electric has further solidified their position as leading female investors on the EGX, with their investment now valued at around $353 million.

Their stake has increased from EGP15.24 billion ($302.96 million) at the start of the year to EGP18.01 billion ($352.37 million), highlighting the bright future of Egypt’s energy and cable sectors.
