Egyptian businessman Sadek El-Sewedy, co-founder and non-executive chairman of Elsewedy Electric, has seen his stake in Elsewedy Electric grow by more than half a billion dollars in 2026 as the shares of the Cairo-based multinational cable and electrical equipment manufacturer surge on the Egyptian Exchange(EGX) by over 60% on the back of strong growth across its cables, engineering and digital businesses.

This surge brings his total stake value closer to $1.4 billion, reflecting the company’s solid performance on the Egyptian bourse. 

Sadek El-Sewedy’s stake soars by $523 million

Sadek El-Sewedy, who began his professional career as a university student working in the family business, has solidified his position among the top names in the African business scene. Serving as the chairman of Elsewedy Electric since 2006, he currently holds a 24.99% stake in the company, equivalent to 534,980,391 shares.

Over the past 237 days, his stake has gained EGP26.24 billion ($523.05 million), marking more than a 62% increase since the start of the year. 

Elsewedy Electric nears $5.5 billion market cap

Elsewedy Electric, founded in 1938 by the El-Sewedy family, remains a dominant force in Egypt and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region’s electrical industry, offering cables, transformers, energy meters, and wind energy solutions that enhance regional energy infrastructure.

The company reported a modest 1.85% increase in net profit to EGP19.19 billion ($386.67 million) for the year ended Dec. 30, 2025, compared with EGP18.84 billion ($379.6 million) a year earlier.

Since the beginning of 2026, Elsewedy’s stock price has risen by 62.67% in local currency terms and 62.85% in U.S. dollar terms, from EGP75.88 ($1.51) on January 1 to EGP127.29 ($2.53), pushing its market capitalization to EGP273.78 billion ($5.45 billion), thus nearing the $5.5 billion milestone.

Sadek El-Sewedy’s stake on the Egyptian Exchange nears $1.4 billion

Sadek’s growing stake in Elsewedy Electric has further solidified his position, as his investment is now valued at approximately $1.4 billion. 

His stake has increased by EGP26.24 billion ($523.05 million) from EGP41.86 billion ($832.25 billion) at the start of the year to EGP68.1 billion ($1.36 billion), highlighting the bright future of Egypt’s energy and cable sectors, most especially as Elsewedy Electric’s market capitalisation approaches $5.5 billion.

Under El-Sewedy’s leadership alongside his brothers, Ahmed and Mohammed, the company continues to expand its manufacturing presence. It has developed a broader portfolio covering cables, electrical products, engineering and construction projects.
