Transcorp Power Plc, the Nigerian electricity generation subsidiary of diversified conglomerate Transnational Corporation Plc, expanded its retained earnings to N147.66 billion ($109.26 million) during the nine months ended September 30, 2026, supported by robust pre-tax profitability and disciplined operational cost containment. The performance bolstered the company’s capital reserves and reinforced balance sheet resilience despite broader sectoral bottlenecks in the domestic power market.

Retained earnings, assets expand amid resilient margins

The Ughelli-based power utility, listed on the Nigerian Exchange, reported a profit before tax of N83.08 billion ($61.48 million) for the nine-month period ended September 2026, compared with N91.18 billion ($67.47 million) recorded in the corresponding period of 2025. Despite top-line pressures, profit before tax margin improved to 31.2 percent from 29.6 percent a year earlier, reflecting enhanced operating efficiencies and an impairment write-back on financial assets totaling N12.4 billion ($9.17 million).

Profit for the period from continuing operations stood at N56.5 billion ($41.81 million), compared with N68.42 billion ($50.63 million) in 2025. Basic earnings per share settled at N7.53 ($0.0056) per share against N9.12 ($0.0067) per share previously. Total dividend disbursements amounted to N41.25 billion ($30.52 million) during the period, compared with N37.50 billion ($27.75 million) distributed in the previous year, demonstrating the board’s continued focus on shareholder returns while maintaining strong capital buffers.

Energy sales lead revenue; debt securities bolster portfolio

Electricity delivery remained the core revenue driver for Transcorp Power. Revenue from energy delivered amounted to N197.88 billion ($146.42 million), down from N225.61 billion ($166.94 million) in the prior period, while capacity charges generated N68.25 billion ($50.50 million) compared with N82.92 billion ($61.35 million) in 2025. Ancillary services contributed N13.50 million ($9,989). Overall revenue reached N266.14 billion ($196.93 million) against N308.54 billion ($228.30 million), affected by sector-wide transmission bottlenecks and fuel constraints.

Geographically, revenue from domestic offtakers accounted for N186.63 billion ($138.09 million), compared with N220.43 billion ($163.11 million) in the corresponding period of 2025. International customer deliveries contributed N79.51 billion ($58.83 million), down from N88.11 billion ($65.19 million). Simultaneously, cost of sales decreased to N163.85 billion ($121.24 million) from N188.87 billion ($139.75 million), driven by lower natural gas and fuel expenses of N149.08 billion ($110.31 million).

Capital base strengthens; liquidity surges across operations

Transcorp Power Plc remains one of West Africa’s most prominent thermal power generation companies, operating the flagship Ughelli Power Plant in Delta State. Transnational Corporation Plc maintains a 50.99 percent controlling equity interest in the entity, representing 3,824,435,342 ordinary shares, while Rich Point Limited holds a 21.61 percent stake.

The resilient operational performance carried through to the balance sheet. Total assets expanded by 11.7 percent to N629.52 billion ($465.80 million) as of September 30, 2026, up from N563.48 billion ($416.94 million) at year-end 2025, supported by the addition of N44.24 billion ($32.74 million) in Federal Government of Nigeria debt securities. Total equity rose to N199.82 billion ($147.86 million) from N183.4 billion ($135.7 million), while cash and cash equivalents grew by 365 percent to N10.31 billion ($7.63 million).
