Following the release of the nine-month unaudited financial report of Ikeja Hotels, the parent company and the owner of Sheraton Lagos Hotel, which disclosed a profit of N5.31 billion ($3.93 million), Nigerian businessman Oba Otudeko has seen the market value of his stake in Ikeja Hotels Plc hit N13.74 billion ($10.19 million), strengthening his position as its second-largest shareholder.

The milestone comes following the release of the group’s nine-month earnings as higher room sales and the complete elimination of borrowing costs cushioned the hospitality giant against severe inflationary pressures across West Africa’s largest commercial hub.

Otudeko’s stake in Ikeja Hotels exceeds $10 million
Oba Otudeko, who became the second-largest shareholder of Ikeja Hotels after his real estate affiliate, HGL Real Estate Limited(HGL), acquired a 14.12% stake in the hospitality group, as disclosed in a filing dated July 2, 2026. Honeywell Group Limited, a real estate affiliate linked to Oba Otudeko, acquired shares worth N13.21 billion ($9.65 million) in Ikeja Hotels Limited on July 2, 2026.

During that period, he qualified for N137.4 million ($100,354) payouts tied to both the 2024 and 2025 financial years as a result of his strategic timing that helped him to unlock dual dividends during the second half of 2026. His more than 14% indirect stake is equivalent to 305.32 million shares. According to the company, the dividends were paid on July 24, 2026, in a development that highlights how timing and corporate governance delays can influence shareholder returns.

Over the past 299 days, the value of his shares jumped by N946.5 million (approximately $1 million), pushing his stake’s total value above the $10 million mark.

Ikeja Hotels strengthens investor appeal, consolidates assets
Ikeja Hotels, one of Nigeria’s leading hospitality investment and management firms, owns a portfolio that includes premium assets such as Sheraton Lagos Hotel, Sheraton Abuja Hotel, and Federal Palace Hotel and Casino.

In July 2026, Ikeja Hotels marked Otudeko’s entry with the purchase of an additional 20 percent stake in subsidiary Hans Gremlin Nigeria Limited, increasing its total ownership to 95 percent. The strategic buy consolidated control over key revenue-producing properties and expanded the company’s footprint across lodging, leisure, and regional hotel management services.

Strong cash flow and asset consolidation expanded the balance sheet to N80.96 billion ($59.9 million) from N77.44 billion ($57.3 million) in December 2025. Total equity climbed to N47.51 billion ($35.16 million), supported by retained earnings of N31.12 billion ($23.02 million), leaving the premier hotelier well-capitalized for future expansion.
