TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc climbed out of the red during the first nine months of 2026, pulling off an earnings recovery backed by double-digit fuel sales growth. The Lagos-based fuel retailer leaned on stronger commercial forecourt traffic, lighter debt-servicing burdens, and favorable currency swings to steady its balance sheet after steep losses last year.

The downstream distributor reported an unaudited net profit of N5.84 billion ($4.32 million) for the period ended Sept. 30, according to regulatory filings. That bottom-line result flipped a sharp net loss of N14.1 billion ($10.43 million) logged over the same stretch in 2025, alongside pre-tax income swinging to positive territory at N8.02 billion.

Pump sales drive rebound

Basic and diluted earnings per share recovered to N17.21, reversing the loss per share of N41.54 suffered during the prior-year stretch. Group top-line revenue advanced 13 percent to reach N661.92 billion ($490 million), up from N587.59 billion, as pump volume upticks lifted overall gross profit to N78.52 billion from N65.76 billion.

Bottom-line margins found meaningful relief from easing balance sheet pressures, with net finance charges shrinking to N11.15 billion from N17.57 billion a year ago. Management attributed the substantial reduction in financing expenses directly to lighter commercial bank overdraft lines, allowing more operational cash to flow cleanly into retained profit buffers.

Forecourt traffic steers momentum

Refined white products remained the powerhouse of the company’s revenue engine, posting an 18 percent sales leap to N472.66 billion. Higher retail demand for motor gasoline, automotive diesel oil, and aviation fuel outpaced specialized lubricant and solar lines, which generated a more modest N189.26 billion compared with N186.13 billion during 2025.

Branded retail forecourts anchored the performance, supplying N370.67 billion or 56 percent of total intake across the company’s nationwide gas station grid. Meanwhile, corporate general trade deliveries grew to N244.91 billion, though commercial aviation fuel billings pulled back to N46.33 billion from N64.63 billion amid tighter carrier schedules across domestic terminals.

Capital base firms up

The parent company, France-based TotalEnergies Marketing Services, controls a 61.72 percent equity stake representing 209,560,000 ordinary shares, while domestic retail and institutional investors hold the remaining float. With operations concentrated locally, the downstream player avoided cross-border distribution bottlenecks, translating steady domestic consumption into durable operational gains across its entire wholesale fuel system.

Higher operating margins translated into balance sheet improvements by the close of the third quarter. Total assets reached N426.31 billion ($315.44 million), climbing from N388.55 billion at year-end 2025. Group equity expanded to N53.38 billion, driven by retained earnings rising to N53.21 billion to reinforce shareholder reserves heading into year-end trading.
