Copper 360, the South African copper miner and producer based in the Northern Cape, has promoted Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer Gordon Thompson to Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately, as the company reshuffles its executive leadership team.

Thompson’s appointment, effective September 24, 2026, comes alongside the appointment of Executive Director Seten Naidoo as Chief Financial Officer. Naidoo, who previously served as Chief Risk Officer and has been Interim CFO since June 2026, will take on the permanent role while relinquishing his previous responsibilities.

From mine development to the CEO role: Gordon Thompson’s mining career

In March, 2026, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) listed company assigned Thompson as transitional CEO and Naidoo as transitional commercial executive after the resignation of Graham Briggs and Stephan du Plessis as directors.

Thompson, a professional certificated engineer with more than 25 years of experience, has built a career spanning mine development, construction, commissioning and operations across Africa. He has held senior executive and board positions at companies listed on the Johannesburg, Australian and London stock exchanges. Thompson joined Copper 360 in June 2023 as Chief Operating Officer and had also served as the company’s transitional CEO before his permanent appointment.

As CEO, Thompson will lead Copper 360, located primarily around the O’okiep and Nababeep district, as the company continues to develop its copper mining and processing operations, building on his experience across the mining value chain.

Seten Naidoo moves from risk to Copper 360’s finance leadership

Naidoo brings 17 years of experience in financial markets within the mining sector, with a background spanning asset management and corporate strategy.

He was previously ranked among the top mining and commodities analysts in the Financial Mail Analyst Rankings. Naidoo joined Copper 360 in 2025 as Chief Risk Officer and more recently served as Transitional Commercial Director before taking on the role of Interim CFO in June 2026.

The company said its board had completed fit-and-proper assessments for both executives and was satisfied with the outcomes. Its Audit and Risk Committee also assessed Naidoo’s competence, qualifications, expertise and experience and concluded that he was suitable to serve as CFO and Financial Director.

Copper 360 reshuffles board committees amid leadership changes

Alongside the executive appointments, Copper 360 has revised the composition of its board committees, with the changes taking effect on September 25, 2026. The company said the restructuring followed a review of its governance structure and was intended to align board oversight with its current strategic and operational priorities, particularly its mining, processing and operational activities.

The revised structure includes the Nominations and Governance Committee, Audit and Risk Committee, Remuneration Committee, Social, Ethics and Compliance Committee, and Safety and Technical Committee.

The mandate of the Social and Ethics Committee has also been expanded to include relevant compliance oversight responsibilities previously handled by the Compliance Committee.

Copper 360’s board has further approved, in principle, the discontinuation of the Investment Committee as a separate board committee. The company said it congratulated Thompson and Naidoo on their appointments and looked forward to their continued contribution to the business.
