Luxury travel in South Africa’s Cape Winelands is drawing renewed interest, as Brookdale Estate introduces a private-use lodge aimed at high-end visitors seeking space, comfort and quiet.

The opening reflects a wider shift in travel, with more guests choosing exclusive stays over busy hotels.

The new Owners’ Lodge sits on a 67-hectare wine estate in Paarl, an area known for its vineyards and mountain views.

From the property, guests look out over the Drakenstein Mountains and Paarl Rock, placing the lodge in one of the region’s most scenic settings.

South Africa has seen steady demand from international and local travelers looking for private, high-end stays.

Industry operators say guests are placing more value on space, tailored service and locations that feel close to nature, especially in well-known wine regions.

The opening adds to a growing list of boutique properties in the Cape Winelands, where estates are investing in smaller, more personal accommodation to meet changing guest preferences.

A private, fully serviced stay

The lodge is designed for small groups, with space for up to eight guests across four en-suite bedrooms.

Large terraces, a swimming pool, a built-in barbecue and an open-plan kitchen create a relaxed setting suited to families or friends traveling together.

The stay is fully inclusive. Guests are served breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared by a private chef, alongside butler service, housekeeping and laundry.

Estate wines and selected drinks are also included, tying the experience closely to the region’s wine offering.

Focus on sustainability

Brookdale Estate says the lodge was built with sustainability in mind.

The property runs off the grid and uses repurposed and locally sourced materials.

An indigenous garden surrounds the lodge, helping support local plant life while reducing water use.

This approach is increasingly common in parts of South Africa where water conservation remains a concern.

Blending privacy with local experience

Guests also have access to the estate’s bistro, offering an option to dine outside the villa while still staying within the property.

For operators in the region, projects like this reflect a clear trend: travelers still want luxury, but in a setting that feels private, considered and connected to the land.
