Sonesta International Hotels Corp. has signed a deal for a new-build hotel in Giza, Egypt, marking another step in its international growth plans. 

The 208-room property, set to open in 2028, will operate under The Royal Sonesta brand and offer views of the Pyramids of Giza. The project places the company in one of Egypt’s most visited destinations, known for its cultural and historical appeal. 

Keith Pierce, Sonesta’s co-chief executive officer, said expanding outside the U.S. remains a priority. He added that the company looks forward to working with its new partner, Al Farida, and strengthening its presence in Egypt with the Giza development. 

Nahed Samir, vice president of operations and development for Sonesta Middle East, said the hotel will be the company’s fourth luxury property in Egypt. With the addition, Sonesta-branded hotels will span key destinations including Cairo, Giza, Luxor and Aswan.

Project details and guest offering 

The hotel will include 208 rooms and suites, along with several dining venues, a fitness center and spa, and meeting and conference facilities aimed at business and leisure travelers. Its location near the Grand Egyptian Museum is expected to add to its appeal. 

Guests will also have access to Sonesta Travel Pass, the company’s loyalty program, which allows members to earn and redeem points and access member benefits.

Strategic location and growth outlook 

Giza remains a central pillar of Egypt’s tourism industry, drawing millions of visitors each year. The new development reflects rising demand for high-end accommodation near major landmarks. 

For Sonesta, the project underscores a broader push to grow its international portfolio while aligning with local tourism demand. For Egypt, it adds to the pipeline of hospitality projects aimed at supporting visitor growth and improving accommodation standards.

Sonesta is the eighth-largest hotel company in the U.S., according to STR, with about 1,100 properties and roughly 100,000 rooms across 13 brands in 10 countries. The company owns, manages or franchises hotels under brands including The Royal Sonesta, Sonesta Hotels & Resorts, and Red Lion Hotels.

The Royal Sonesta brand focuses on hotels in major destinations, offering design-led properties and locally influenced service.
