Elsewedy Electric, the Cairo-based multinational cable, and electrical equipment manufacturer led by the Egyptian billionaire El-Sewedy family, has acquired a 60% majority stake in Netherlands-based Thomassen Service, strengthening its gas turbine maintenance and repair capabilities across the Middle East and Africa.

The transaction covers Thomassen Service’s Middle East and Africa operations, its filter manufacturing business and its Africa-based subsidiary, expanding Elsewedy Electric’s ability to provide integrated energy services across the full project lifecycle.

Acquisition expands gas turbine capabilities

The deal brings more than three decades of specialised gas turbine maintenance and component repair expertise into Elsewedy Electric’s portfolio, supporting its strategy of expanding beyond project execution into long-term operation and maintenance services.

Thomassen Service specialises in on-site turbine maintenance and component repairs, serving clients across energy, industrial and petrochemical sectors. The acquisition comes as demand for reliable power and industrial infrastructure accelerates across the Arabian Gulf, particularly Saudi Arabia, where investment is being driven by the country’s Vision 2030 development programme.

Elsewedy Electric is also developing two gas turbine component repair facilities in the United Arab Emirates. The newly acquired capabilities are expected to complement these investments by expanding localised repair capacity, reducing reliance on overseas facilities and improving turnaround times for customers.

Ahmed Elsewedy, CEO and managing director of Elsewedy Electric, said the acquisition would strengthen the company’s technical capabilities and expand the value it provides customers across the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

He added that combining Thomassen Service’s specialised expertise with Elsewedy Electric’s engineering and project capabilities would enable the group to provide more comprehensive solutions spanning energy project execution, maintenance and operations.

Peter Hertog, CEO of Thomassen Service, said joining Elsewedy Electric would create opportunities to scale the business and enter new markets. The partnership will give Thomassen Service access to Elsewedy Electric’s financial resources, regional footprint and engineering and construction ecosystem, supporting expansion into high-growth energy markets.
