Ongwe Minerals, a Canadian mineral exploration company, is raising CAD15.4 million ($11 million) to accelerate gold exploration in Namibia, strengthening its push into the emerging Damara gold belt.

The Canadian-listed explorer has also launched a concurrent private placement that could lift total funding above CAD23 million ($16.41 million), highlighting growing investor interest in early-stage African mining opportunities. The company plans to issue up to 11.16 million shares at CAD1.38 ($0.98) each under its revised financing structure. An additional over-allotment option could increase proceeds by roughly CAD3 million ($2.14 million) if fully exercised.

Ongwe expands financing structure

The financing is led by Beacon Securities, alongside Research Capital, with support from a broader syndicate including Haywood Securities, Raymond James, Canaccord Genuity, Red Cloud Securities and Stifel Nicolaus Canada.

In parallel, Ongwe is pursuing a non-brokered private placement of up to 3.33 million shares, targeting approximately CAD4.6 million ($3.28 million) in additional proceeds.

Combined funding could exceed CAD23 million ($16.41 million), providing capital for exploration programs, drilling activities and general corporate needs.

Namibia exploration strategy gains traction

The funding will support exploration across three key Namibian gold projects, including the Omatjete and Khorixas assets. These projects are located within geological corridors that remain relatively underexplored compared to other regional gold systems.

Recent exploration results have strengthened the company’s position, including the identification of a multi-kilometer gold anomaly near its Manga discovery. The findings expand Ongwe’s exploration footprint and provide new drilling targets. Management’s experience in advancing Namibian gold projects, including involvement in past developments linked to Osino Resources, adds to the company’s investment appeal.

Why investors are backing gold exploration

Fresh capital remains critical for junior mining companies operating in frontier markets. Namibia continues to attract exploration investment due to its stable regulatory environment and untapped mineral potential.

For investors, the transaction reflects sustained appetite for gold exploration assets despite volatility across commodity markets. Access to funding enables companies to accelerate drilling, testing and resource definition.

What comes next for Ongwe

The financing is expected to close around June 25, 2026, subject to regulatory approvals, including the TSX Venture Exchange.

With new capital in place, Ongwe will focus on advancing exploration targets and assessing whether recent discoveries translate into commercially viable gold deposits. Investors will closely watch drilling results, assay data and project updates in the second half of 2026 as indicators of progress.
