IHG plans 28 more hotels in Egypt as Crowne Plaza signs Cairo deal

IHG Hotels & Resorts has 28 hotels in its Egyptian development pipeline, adding to 10 properties already operating in the country, as the global hospitality group expands its presence in one of its key growth markets with a new Crowne Plaza hotel in New Cairo.

The latest agreement covers a 250-room property in the capital’s Sixth Settlement district, with an opening scheduled for the first quarter of 2031.

The deal gives IHG another foothold in East Cairo, where infrastructure investment, population growth and expanding business activity are increasing demand for internationally branded accommodation.

The project also highlights the growing role of mixed-use developments in Egypt’s hospitality sector, with the planned hotel combining accommodation, dining, conference facilities and leisure amenities to serve corporate travellers, residents and visitors.

Egypt pipeline drives IHG’s expansion

The Crowne Plaza New Cairo project will operate under a management agreement between IHG and Kleek Development, a joint venture between Emaar Al Delta for Contracting and Real Estate Investment and Modern Style Home Real Estate Company.

The hotel will form part of a mixed-use development serving East Cairo’s business, commercial and residential communities.

Its planned facilities include guest rooms and suites, four dining venues, six meeting and event spaces, a dedicated ballroom, a swimming pool, a fitness centre, a spa and retail spaces.

IHG’s existing Egyptian portfolio and development pipeline underline the scale of its expansion plans. With 10 hotels operating and another 28 in the pipeline, the company is positioning itself to capture future demand as the country’s hospitality market develops.

New Cairo targets corporate and leisure guests

The hotel will incorporate Crowne Plaza’s Plaza Workspace concept, which divides traditional lobby areas into dedicated spaces for professional and personal use. Its WorkLife Room design will provide separate zones for working, relaxing and sleeping.

Haitham Mattar, IHG’s managing director for India, the Middle East and Africa, said New Cairo’s investment and infrastructure development were strengthening its position as a commercial destination and generating demand for hotels serving both business and leisure travellers.

He said the Crowne Plaza brand was suited to guests seeking flexibility to work, meet colleagues and relax during the same stay.

Developer backs long-term growth

Eng. Hussein Dawoud, CEO of Kleek Development, said the partnership reflected the company’s confidence in New Cairo’s growth and its appeal to residents, businesses and visitors.

He said Kleek aimed to create a high-quality destination by combining IHG’s international hospitality expertise with the Crowne Plaza brand.

The hotel is scheduled to open in early 2031, placing its launch several years ahead as IHG and its development partners seek to capitalise on New Cairo’s continued expansion.
